Ted, so we in America have over 500 more per capita citizens deserving of jail than those folks in Mexico? Have you heard about all the murders and crime in Mexico? Yet they only incarcerate 209 citizens per every 100,000 while we in America jail 716 citizens per every 100,000.

How could you look at those numbers without a smirk on your face?

The US prison system is a huge employment scam for the public worker extractors who siphon dollars from our pocketbooks.

I know that’s hard for some of you to digest. But it’s the honest to God truth. Deal with it.

Imagine if America implemented some serious prison reform and reduced our prison population from 716 per 100,000 to that of Mexico (209 per 100,000). Any idea how many gravy jobs would get eliminated? And not just jail management and jail guards. But all the support services necessary to maintain a national prison population of over 2 million (when China with a population 4 times the size of ours only has 1 milion)? Small cities would go bankrupt overnight. This is why America must continue to jail people at the drop of a hat at the same rate that Stalin put people away in his gulags back in the day. Rich nations have money to burn. Our global neighbors must use more discretion with their limited wealth. But the chickens will come home to roost sooner or later in America too. Then some tough decision will have to be made. And if there was fairness, justice and equity in our corrections system they’d hook up the gang members who wear shirts, ties and skirts in Scramento for transport to Pelican Bay too! Bad boy bad boy…whatcha goin’ do? Whatcha goin’ do when they come for you?

Mr. Let it Col.— Excluding the dope law fiasco— I give you that…..YES—– we have better law enforcement and a strange society/more bad people– guns are everywhere, we have an epidemic of diseases of affluence and we worship the dollar in a stratified society of haves and have nots. These are just a few of the reasons our prisons are full. Your observations are only looking at symptoms not the root. Wendall Barry once wrote…”movements that don’t address root causes are doomed to fail…”
