Exactly Dave. And that’s how you know it has nothing to do with real enviro reform, and everything to do with crony capitalism.

Steinberg made an unholy deal with Republicans — the bill just passed both houses of the CA Leg. Couldn’t have done it without Republican votes.

It sounds like a great Idea. But why do they need taxpayer subsidies? There are plenty of big development firms that could come in and build the facilities and make a handsome profit.

And if there is a problem with business getting doing the environmental reports, why not fix this for all businesses? And if Union Labour is so great, why not just let the contractors choose whom they want? Surely the Union workers bring a lot to the table and there in no need to have special requirements to hire Union.

The reality is that it’s not possible for private firms build big things in California without cutting a deal with the Unions that seem to control local government. Maybe it would be less of a burden on taxpayers to let the team move out of state, and subsidise pay for everyone to have their games on the NBA package. Most non-union working folks will not be able to afford to take their families to basketball games anyways. Why should we have to pay the bill?

Daniel, I have no agenda other than the prudent use of public tax dollars. If a giant sports arena is what will vitalize downtown, then let developers put up their own money for it, and then reap the financial rewards. “If you build it they will come” has not worked on any other publicly financed arena in the country. They never pencil out, and it’s the taxpayers who always get the short end of the stick.

As I’ve pointed out in several other stories, the city is trying to increase the value of their own properties on the K Street Mall, which they have run into a slum through redevelopment and eminent domain.

It is painfully evident the arena proponents, developers and city officials have to cheat and bypass the laws every other construction project in the state is subject to, in order to even get this started. Ask yourself why.

You people must have a agenda. Although I love our Sacramento Kings, this is bigger than basketball. Re vitalizing downtown sacramento is needed. This provides the help for that dream to come true.

Sounds like a great deal for Sacramento. Entertainment financed by siphoned off dollars from the other sections of the state. This is the future of California, sports teams, water parks. Build more entertainment venues…it kept Rome going for a long time. When do the Lions versus the Christians go at it? Maybe some high tech company(Oracle, Facebook,Google?) will sponsor the drool towels handed out to the spectators. Can you imagine Steinberg and KJ in togas?
