The great inequalities in family form & function, parental preparedness, and pre-K learning experiences HAVE TO be addressed if we are going to close the "opportunity gap" in CA. The public schools have to begin reaching boys and girls age 7-12 with life path education. The life path choices have to be laid bare to these youngsters, and their consequences for prosperity vs. impoverishment. Yes, some parents' feelings will be hurt, but it must be emphasized that life path choices ed is only forward-looking -- it is NOT about choices made in the past by parents, nor their suitability as parents.

It is about future choices and plans the children will face, and preparing them to make the choices that the data indicate will bring the most prosperity, health, happiness and readiness to parent themselves.

The schools have every right and power to teach life-path education that is based on facts and research, not opinions, not traditions, and not anecdotes. Parents who are inclined to push their children into inferior life paths need to be challenged at every step during the formative pre-pubescent years. Students who are resolved about life path choices, and adequately rehearsed for the onset of sexual maturation, knowing what to expect and how to respond, are on their way to restoring a uniformily functioning family in CA.

Unless educators are willing to tackle life path choices, on-time in the child's developmental timeframe, all efforts to achieve equity in educational opportunity will continue to frustrate. Leveling the playing field for children requires a generational interval to correct kinship organization dysfunction. To think educators can fix the problem without addressing pre-parenting development is an exercise in boiling the ocean.
