This is not an accurate report of the hearing. Ms. Melendez was not present most of the hearing. When she had experts in front of her she did not ask them about the 26,000 number and what it really means. She applied the logic used many in the Chain of Command, how bad could be it was sex. After the meeting I told her what I thought of her using her story about her tan lines to say that it wasn't traumatic for her. Really then why did you feel a need to discuss it with a mostly empty room, Ms. Melendez?
If the rules changed in 2007 why are the numbers still climbing? Going from 19,000 in fy 2011 to 26,000 fy 2012. That change would affect the numbers from 2007 to 2008 not now. And hey what were the numbers before that no one knows the DoD will not say a number for sure.
I would like to add that in the first photo you show the two survivors who were asked to speak but you give not one quote from us or anyone other than the Chairman and Ms. Melendez. I think you are her personal writer because many other things of importance were said there. You spent half the article trying to make what she said make some sense. I would tell anyone who wants to see what really happened, what was really said by who and when go watch the video so you can conclude if this "reporter" is telling the important facts or just trying to do damage control for Ms. Melendez.
I would enjoy a debate with Ms. Melendez about this subject. One where she is in the room not ignoring important facts, where she has to do more that make statements to nearly empty room but answer the question at hand.
HOW DO WE GET COMMANDERS TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY? Not just talk about your tan lines and how it did not hurt you. Being a lawmakers requires a trait that Ms. Melendez does not understand empathy.
One last question, why don't you have a photo of her at that hearing? I know the answer she was not there most of the 3 hours. I was there the whole time.
From the woman who was raped at work around noon in 1975. I bet you don't have the guts to let this comment stand.
