Such a sad statement about our society in general. Even cockroaches and vermin place the safety of their young at the very highest of their priorities. But our state legislators and public school unions afford more job protections to accused pedophile teachers than they do safety protections for 7 and 8 year olds enrolled in the schools!

Mark Bernt was accused of lewd and lascivious behavior as far back as the early 1990's. It's reported that in 1994 the cops actually investigated him for inappropriate sexual behavior in the classroom and submitted their report to the DA, who said there was 'insufficient evidence' to prosecute. But you'd think that would raise a HUGE red flag to watch this guy like a hawk around kids. Now, nearly 20 years later, he's convicted of violating nearly 2 dozen children between 2005 and 2010. And the child violations reported were so egregious and so repulsive it would make Ivan the Terrible squirm in his grave. How many other children were egregiously violated in his 30-year tenure and went unreported we'll never really know.

After Bernt's arrest in 2012 Senator Padilla authored SB1530 which would have cut through some of the union bureaucratic red-tape protectionism and made it easier to suspend or fire those teachers who commit sexual violations against children. Naturally, the California Teacher's Association (CTA) fought it tooth and nail and the democrats killed it in the Assembly Education Committee so that it would never reach the floor for a full-on vote. Really disgusting.

The public school unions and CTA don't hesitate to parade children around holding signs to encourage voters to approve bigger taxes or bond approvals for K-12 on election day. Naturally it's done in the name of 'protecting the children'. Yet, I didn't see any of these groups parade children around with signs asking the public to help protect them from child predators who happen to be teachers. You know, people like Mark Bernt.

Cockroaches and vermin protect their young. I thought humans were wired that way too. What ever happened?
