Those of us in teacher jail are not there because of something we have done, we are there because of something we are and more than 90% of us are over forty and at the top of the salary schedule. The school district is picking us off one by one in order to lower personnel costs. If you think it’s okay to target people for what they are- gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, political affiliation etc. then say so.
I’d be happy to have a vigil for the children abused by the system but let’s be clear that this means the LAUSD that recruits false allegations against teachers and this includes administrators that victimize teachers in order to keep their jobs. The pogrom that the LAUSD is engaged in dehumanizes the principals that are ‘just following orders’ as they victimize teachers.
You should be dancing in the street. UTLA, CFT, CTA, NEA, and AFT have not done anything in our defense and this progrom will continue to destroy the livelihoods of teachers. There is no way to make this clearer; UTLA has consciously chosen to ignore us and many more will find their careers over before anything is done to right this atrocity. I expect that we will find that a deal was made between UTLA leadership and the LAUSD at the expense of teachers.
