Stop squandering HSR funds on Caltrain, with its dozens of grade crossings.
Truncate first phase of HSR to the Bay Area at San Jose.
Upgrade Amtrak East Bay (Mulford) corridor from San Jose to Sacramento.
Include an intermodal transfer at the BART overhead in Oakland.
Better, safer, more reliable, far less costly.

I agree totally-California needs cheap, reliable, durable, and DO-ABLE low tech rail transportation for passengers and freight.

Something like a fusion of indonesian chicken buses with the siberian express. Something that can be put in place now using existing rail corridors, cause Amtrak and the Coaster just aren’t cutting it..Something that is a TOTAL ‘no brainer’ when californians are considering leaving their car at home for a daily commute or a weekend trip.

Unfortunately the bullet train is a hyper-expensive techno wet dream that has only one stop: OBLIVION…..
