My prediction: like Napoleon in Russia the supply trains back to the east coast are too long to sustain the bullet train, bogged down in hostile terrain, the mammoth will slowly sink into the California litigation/environmental tar pit.

They might succeed in building that one ridiculous first segment, but the will be it. Maybe the tracks will be used to haul apricots from Merced to Fresno…
