Joe, that’s not the AG’s fault, that’s how the proposition is worded. I was not commenting on the proposition’s details — just how it was treated. Relative to what was submitted to the Secretary of State’s office, this seems an unbiased title and summary.

I’m a huge fan of Chris Reed, and hope he keeps looking into California high-speed rail, but am puzzled by his use of “fair” to describe this proposed stop-the-bullet-train Proposition. After all, the initiative “Permits construction of first segment of the high-speed rail system to proceed, if Legislature consents….” Well, politicians will line up to grab a piece of the pork-barrel spending, so I see the legislature as giving its “consent” and countless more millions of dollars will be wasted. Finally some reality is settling in viz a viz the bullet train, but of course there needs to be a thorough round of hand washing, face saving, and deft tip-toeing away from this rapidly approaching hi tech train wreck.

The worst outcome from the establishment’s viewpoint would be that billions are spent, nothing is accomplished, and THEN the voters wake up from their California sunshine daydream and start voting out incumbents. Horrors!
