billyBS, what is the name of the City that requires a permit to replace your water heater, and charges, $500, no less? We replaced the water heater in our house several years ago. We just bought it and had it delivered and installed–no permit required to do that.

In reply to Bob Smith. Correct, they just started raising FEES, not taxes, FEES, and revenue did not go down at all, which is why I laugh at people who claim Prop 13 caused the state's finances to collapse, and they are ALWAYS government trough feeders.....

When I replaced a water heater, I inquired about the permit needs:
the permit was $500 to replace a water heater with new one. The cost to replace with new unit and labor was $900 by a licensed contractor. Someone in all the excitement(must have watched “Dirty Harry” the night before replacement) we forgot the permit. When the state is going to act like a Banana Republic, the residents will adjust just fine.

Isn’t this sort of thing exactly what happened when Proposition 13 became law? Government revenues didn’t go down at all after Prop 13 despite the wailing of opponents that the sky was going to fall if it passed.
