In reply to Rex the Wonder Dog!.

Yes, I was born in Detroit 59 years ago and grew up in the suburb of Wayne. It was the most prosperous place in the world until the 1974 Depression. When I got out of the U.S. Army in 1982, unemployment back home was 16% and I couldn't find a job, so I left. Now California is ruined.

Was it me?

Left California in 1994. My income has QUADRUPLED since I left. All that tax money going to my adopted state. Took 4 other native born Californians with me. The kids are all grown, now they are contributing to the tax base of North Carolina. None of the kids interested in going back to the native land. They all enjoy visiting California but are glad to get back east where they all enjoy a higher standard of living ( sans the Mediterranean climate). My mother and mother in law had a total of 8 children ( all California natives, I did not include two additional step children in the totals below). Two still live in California ( total of 6 children between them). Four have moved out of state ( Hawaii, North Carolina, Florida, and Oregon) with a total of 8 children between them. One of those 8 lives in California. Seven live out of state, each a productive tax generating citizen. The highest income earning individuals in my family live outside California. I am sure the state does just fine without us, I think it would be better with us. Us expats all love our native state, some of us like to vacation there. After a visit most of us are happy to return back home to our adopted states. For my grandchildren, North Carolina will be their native state.

KWAME M KILPATRICK
Register Number: 44678-039
Age: 43
Race: Black
Sex: Male
Located at: El Reno FCI
Release Date: 08/01/2037

Kwame will be 66 when he is released, if he does not die in prison.

In my opinion the public unions have essentially done to California the exact same thing that Kwame Kilpatrick did to Detroit, California has just not imploded yet- but it will eventually, just as Detroit did.

It takes a lot to chase people away from the surf and sunshine, but California’s toxic government has done that. If the Golden State had the weather of North Dakota, nobody would be left.

That is what happened to Detroit. In 1960 Detroit had the HIGHEST PER CAPITA INCOME IN THE US! #1! That was only 54 years ago. Now Detroit is in ruins. John, you said you grew up in Detroit, you were there when it was at the TOP of the food chain. I lived in Michigan too, and it is a nice place, but for ANY area to succeed it must have the right mix of business, taxes, education and long term plan for growth. Detroit failed miserably.

Jeezzzz, Kwame Kilpatrick was the Robert Rizzo of Detroit, that is how far Detroit fell.
