It should be obvious to anyone who actually thinks. The reason this country is so great, the most free and with the most opportunities, is assimilation. Yes, for 2+ centuries, people have come here and become….Americans! Bi-lingual ed just works against that. Few other developed countries (Canada being an obvious example – with attendant significant problems) have such a rediculous policy. You wanna be an American -speak American (kids do fine).

So YES, bilingual education is needed.

Having said that, English will be the dominant language for at least the next few generations in America and to succeed you will have to be extremely proficient in it. And if you are proficient in BOTH then you are light years ahead of the competition.
