Wayne:
This state is so insane that I predict that if the choice comes down to fish or granny, the powers that be will make the obvious choice from their perspective.
One should waste no time preparing for grandma's funeral.

A "green" salad for sure. But could I get a glass of water?

Thanks for the comment

It may come down to an ethical dilemma this summer as communicated in a letter from the Public Utilities Commission, Grid Operator and the Energy Commission. California may have a choice of curtailing water supplies for fish and for carryover water for 2015 or for spilling enough water so that natural gas power plants have enough water to run their steam generators so that your grandmother on a respirator or on a dialysis machine has enough power to survive. The three energy regulating agencies in California are warning there would not be enough water for northern California steam power plants if water is curtailed for fish or for conserving for carry over into 2015.

So it may literally come down to a choice between a fish and our grandmothers this year. Hopefully, ideologically driven officials won't make that decision.

There were funds dedicated in the failed water bond for water storage but that storage was restricted only to "projects the improved the Delta ecosystem" and "contributed to the restoration of aquatic ecosystems and native fish and wildlife." In other words, only "green dams" could have been built.

This is the problem of one party government in California. Everybody outside of that Party is not welcome to the spending "party" and artificial jobs programs proliferate while legitimate water infrastructure projects are never funded. California spent nearly $20 billion on 5 water bonds since 2000 that squandered all that funding in the same way without a drop of water storage created.

The concept of stealing water from the already depleted fisheries of the northern part of the state and sending it south through peripheral tunnels or canals was voted down years ago. Tell Jerry Brown's buddies to desalinize seawater to fill their pools and leave the northern waters alone.

No wonder this water dog died. Millions for tribute but not a cent to increase water supplies.
Instead the proposed bond props up the Big Green bureaucracy by providing 'consultants' to study why we have no water and millions more on "Delta ecosystem" studies now ongoing for decades. And then throw in a few weed pulling jobs for out of work greenheads with worthless degrees in environmental science. Whatever it takes in order to satisfy the green masters that rule the Dema-Rat party.
I still hold a fading hope the people in this state will wake up the the real problem of water scarcity in Cali. We need to build more reservoirs instead of squabbling over the last few drops and just playing power games by screwing some other group out of their allotment.
