What absolutely f***ing idiocy! What are these folks smoking? If we should agree that we need more $ for maintenance (and I am quite skeptical of this given Caltrans record), the legislature can just vote to increase the gas tax. Are they afraid to? Too obvious?

To say that a mileage tax will somehow make up for dwinding gas tax revenues is complete BULL. So a Prius that drives 1000 miles will pay the same mileage tax as an Escalade that gets 8 mpg? And then the Escalade driver will get all gas taxes refunded? How does this possibly add up to a net gain for the highway fund?

This scheme is extremely regressive because 1) it rewards drivers of gas guzzlers 2) it punishes the millions of California working class who must commute very long distances because of the cost of housing.

C’MON FOLKS: This is 100% about SURVEILLANCE! CONTROL FREAK GOVERNMENT cannot stop in its quest to monitor you.

As for Oregon as some kind of shining progressive beacon, this tax scheme WILL have to go to the voters for approval per the state constitution, so it is guaranteed D.O.A.

Arhhh Me Hardy’s once again Big Brother is here to “Help”! Instead of charging motorists for miles driven we the people should demand an excise tax of some astronomical amount be placed upon the Benevolent legislators in Sacramento each time they come up with another ‘STUPID” Idea such as this.
Perhaps 10 G’s a pop to be divided up among the drivers here in the Peoples Republic.

Bubba says it’s time to escape from the Peoples Republic. Texas sounds good..at least Rick Perry has his head screwed on right!

California legislature want to put GPS in all cars so they can charge more money for miles traveled. Then they address privacy issues by creating a task force to make sure “personally identifiable” information is not passed around. How can they collect and bill if they don’t pass it around to state agencies and as we all know, if its in the cloud, someone else is looking at it or hacks it.
The real problem is why has the State keep stealing highway funds over the years instead of using them for routine maint. and construction. Why do they spend a larger percentage on public transportaion projects than on real world roads and bridges when less that 10% of the public demand or use public transportation.

Argh…am in exile here in AZ… boy don’t I miss CA and its Fascism and social engineering…. Fought CA Socialism from within the GOP and conservatives…time for freedom is running out in CA….Big Brother and his little henchman Sacramento is in your car and your home and your work and your paycheck…. argh…the silence from the ‘conservative” Legislators and Senators who care about liberty and freedom up in the bowels of the Beast is deafening….they want to make things like this “better” and “more efficient’ and “less costly”..and the worst..BIPARTISAN…. find out who actually voted for this in committee or the Floor..and let em have it..and use the “F” word to describe them and this(“Fascism’)
