The only reason Calpine is some what clean is that it pumped the reservoir dry and are now pumping 20 million gallons of waste water from Santa Rosa and Lake Co to inject into the steam field. Bottle Rock Power since build by the state and now in private hand has now gone past 700 million invested into a power plant that nets about 8 megawatts. There is nothing green or renewable about these large scale geothermal steam fields. Also take look at the geysers on goggle maps that will explain it self. Billions invested for millions in return. My family has owned property in the geysers for 5 generations. They have had more than 30 years to make it work and its not working.

This is an EXCELLENT development! Seriously-with NO sarcasm here, Ben Hueso is now acting like a true 'progressive' by helping to kickstart geothermal energy, which has so far been treated like the forgotten stepchild of renewable energy, and for no other reason than institutional inertia and engineering cultural prejudice.

Cost, you say? What is the cost to ratepayers of the fiasco at San Onofre and the subsequent hot toxic decomissioning that will never end? How many billions wil/are being flushed down that black hole?

Geothermal is CLEAN ABUNDANT ENDLESS baseline power. It is under our feet at this very moment! Engineers: you need to wrap your impressive IQ's around this concept!

While I am opposed philosophically to government mandates, since we are going full soviet anyway, lets get some good out of it...

the state mouth pieces and the article do not speak to the costs of integration of renewable sources into the existing systems. pv and wind do not provide inertia and actually create instability in the system. a mix of base load geothermal, solar and wind can create a cost effective and secure supply of electrical energy
