If safeguards against cronyism are not built in and rigorously enforced from the top, then two outcomes are inevitable: in the private sector it is bankruptcy, in the public sector it is an organization that will be riddled like swiss cheese and topple over. My harshest venom is reserved for the little snot-noses you find acting as gatekeepers in HR departments everywhere, who act to provide a very thin veneer of credibility in hiring.
