From teachers who cannot be fired to cops who are completely unaccountable, firefighters making 250-500 k per year plus outrageous benefits, this trend will probably continue until it collapses. This is because voters refuse to vote, refuse to get involved with local government and over time the unions have cleverly erected higher barriers to change and meaningful public participation. I refer everyone to Mike Aguirre’s white papers on San Diego’s pension crisis. Brilliant and insightful.
