Like most of the Eco-freaks roaming the country you have to paint a picture that is a lie in order to sell your simple minded beliefs. My wife and I are in the habit of bringing these same bags with us when we hike around the nation to put away wayward trash we may come across on the trail. I have encountered a few shopping bags, mostly badly decayed, they disintegrate whey you try to pick them up. It is not the bags that are the problem, it is the slobs that don't care, and then to make things worse the mettlesome eco-freaks seek prohibition of a wonderful useful tool. :)

Funny how no one makes any mention of the lazy, irresponsible Californians who litter and don’t recycle the bags, or allow them to blow around outside.

Rather than penalize the few that litter, it’s easier in this nanny-state to penalize everyone by enacting a total ban.

I guess stupid, irresponsible people require draconian measures to prevent the few from fouling the landscape with their laziness…

The bags don’t have brains of their own and free will to determine where they go, it’s the idiot people that do that…think about that….

I agree that there are so many uses for the plastic bags and I might support the referendum. But as for being sanitary because they hold dog poop–I don’t think so. Such waste should be buried or flushed–all baby waste should be flushed. Our landfills are a disaster on our hands–all this poop in non-biodegradable plastic bags and disposable diapers!

The signature canvassing period does not conclude until December 29, 2014. I think it has to go through a signature verification process before it is cleared for the 2016 ballot. Are you making the same mistake that was made by the sponsor of the six-states initiative?

John, what makes you think the voters will pass this if it even gets on the ballot?

A recent poll in the article you sited indicated only 34 per cent of voters would vote to ban the ban.

John, you should know that Colliefornia (as Ahnode sez) voters when faced with the choice of being a free people or slaves nearly always choose to be slaves.
