the low prices for fuel are temporary at best … adding taxes now shows a person is either stupid or evil wither way they are not fit for government … per mile fees are big brother and have no place in a free society

In reply to NTHEOC. The solution is for people to move from LA to IE -- and keep moving out of state. Then they won't pay taxes here, either, especially for the public-employee pensions.

This is a great idea and I hope this tax goes in effect soon! Maybe now more people will look into public transportation or get a job closer to home. Less traffic on our highways is good for everything. I can’t believe people are willing to commute 2 hours to and from work, how miserable!! I could never do that, but if people are willing to in order to have a bigger house out in the IE then they can pay a tax to keep up the roads.

With California’s absurdly high cost of housing, and the attendant need for most normal, non-plutocrat types to commute long to very long distances to work, mileage taxes will drive a final stake through the heart of whats left of the middle class.

It will also de-incentivise gas conservation since a 16 cylinder stretch hummer full of Elvis impersonators will pay the same per mile tax as a thrifty Prius full of nuns. This will contribute to the dreaded GLOBAL WARMING. That’s right, Toni Atkins, YOU ARE KILLING THE EARTH with your policies!
