The bill should also ban children under the age of 21 from being sent into a war zone to fight and die for their country. Far too many young people under the age of 21 have died in war before reaching the age to legally buy alcohol. War is a greater danger to youth than cigarettes.

The fact is in 88 or 89 we levied a 25 cent per pack tax on cigarettes, and that tax funded a MASSIVE anti-smoking campaign. It worked wonders lowering the smoking rate from 25% down to around 15%, then the ads stopped but the tax continued. The CA smoking % is still the lowest in the nation and will continue to decrease because it is not “cool” anymore, in fact it makes on a pariah in this state. So it is just “feel good” legislation that is driving another elected ego.
