Our new administrative state, at all of its self-important and self-serving food chain levels from WashDC to statehouses, county seats and city halls, serves interests which are not always, or spottily, compatbile with what is best for citizens. This is not new, but we are looking at it all (in this case California HSR) thru a modern prism. It really is one hell of a mess, and even this is amplified by few people knowing who is doing what or precisely what interest is behind what manuver. Back when the Big Four were touting (and fixing the system) for the transcontinental railroad at least it was nown which interest wanted which result.]]></description>
