Higher education is cheap in California.

It is the books, rent, transportation, eating out, booze, drugs, tech toys, Spring Break, dates, party time that have become extremely expensive.

Giving a student loan to a kid is like an incendiary device…pours borrowed dollars on non essentials, fattens landlords, etc.

Good example: In early 60’s my fraternity of 40 guys…..only two cars in a five place parking area. Today, the whole side yard is asphalt, the backyard the same, a total of 30 spaces.

Complaints about increased UC student fees too often ignore a key point — all poor and many middle class CA students don’t pay the “fees” (our state’s euphemism for tuition). There are no fees for most California families with under $80K income.

It’s called the “Blue and Gold” program. 55% of all undergraduate CA UC students pay zero tuition, and another 14% pay only partial tuition.
