Can San Onofre be repurposed at a very little cost as a water powered turbine? Unfortunately, no.

We'll know solar is a practical electricity generator when we can drop the 30% subsidy, and yet people and companies will still install solar. But it's been too many years since we started this subsidy, and it appears that the massive solar tax credit is still essential to continue to get folks to install solar.

Hence solar is not (yet) the best method of producing electricity. Either way, drop the tax credit subsidy. AND the mandates.

SDG&E is dismantling the San Onofre Nuculear Power Plant as we speak. That is a power generation plant that is right on the ocean and already attached to the power grid. It seems like it would be a perfect place to a truly sustainable energy source - the power of the Ocean currents. We have the technology to build ocean turbines which turn so slowly that fish can swim through. Can we re-purpose San O at very little cost and make use of the connections to the power grid?
