I think the best way to sell it is to tell the environmentalist that the coal generated power would be used to make solar panels. After all, it takes 3 years of solar panel operation to recoup the energy that was used in its manufacture.

Whether you buy into anthropogenic global warming or not, it is INSANE to ship coal to the other side of the world. Why is it somehow OK to burn coal in China but not here? We really do need to evolve away from these disastrous poison resources, coal and uranium, and agree that we're not going to destroy the landscape and poison the atmosphere FOREVER so a tiny handful of the super-rich can stuff a few more bucks into their accounts. Leave it in the ground. It is there for a reason.

Seems ironic that the same coal industry that helped perpetuate an economy in the USA that has then funded all the technologies to improve our lifestyle is now being attacked as evil for other underdeveloped countries that want to follow in our footsteps.

The availability of affordable, plentiful, reliable, scalable, and dependable supplies of fossil fuels has industrialized the world and improved every aspect of the lives of billions of people worldwide.

The world’s numerous industries and infrastructures that drive the economy and the lifestyle to which we have become accustomed are dependent on energy from the oil and gas industries for their existence as well as the chemical by-products from oil.

Oil and gas have industrialized the world and most importantly the development of economies that drive technological developments that fund the technologies that have improved the efficiencies of every infrastructure sector and business sector that are the basis of our economy and standard of living.
