Any conviction, including misdemeanors, can be a bar to ANY state license in California. The caveat is that it MUST be related to the job if it is used to deny the license. The example of drunk driving being a ban on a cosmetology license is therefore completely false, as a DUI has nothing to do with cosmetology. A misdemeanor DUI used to be a crime to deny or revoke a teaching license, back in the 1950;s, not today. In fact GED cops are routinely convicted of DUI's all over this state, as are judges, yet their POST certification and Bar license are never revoked.
