The pension fix bill starts coming due in 2019 where the local jurisdictions have to make enhanced payments into the retirement accounts of CalPERS and CalSTRS employees. ~20% of the operational personnel costs for the school systems will have to be redirected towards the pension funds. If they don’t get more money, a lot of places will be in a world of hurt and have to make cuts. But don’t expect to see many adds touting money in operating budgets being diverted to pensions as a selling point of the higher taxes.
