Sadly, the economic innumeracy of students can become a perverse GOAL of public education. The unions (though certainly not most teachers) like the fact that the less that students understand about math, the more gullible they will be about buying lottery tickets in the future.

While clearly a regressive tax, government lotteries have the saving grace on being tax on stupidity. And on human weakness.

I thinks it’s fair to say that more Democrat voters than Republicans buy lottery tickets. What’s not to like?
