CalWatchdog Morning Read – May 2

by CalWatchdog Staff | May 2, 2016 8:55 am

Good morning and welcome to May.

California Republicans greeted all three remaining GOP presidential candidates over the weekend, a big deal for partisans in a state that rarely matters in the primary process.

The main event, or at least the one with protests, was Donald Trump’s speech Friday[1]. Compared to a situation where protestors were throwing eggs at police, busting through barricades and rerouting a candidate’s entrance through a hole in the fence along the 101, the appearances of Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich[2] were quite tame.

Cruz’s VP pick — unsuccessful presidential and Senate candidate Carly Fiorina — also spoke[3]. Like Kasich and Cruz, no one hurled eggs in her name either.

California Republicans also changed the party’s rules to allow for up to two more terms for their popular chairman, Jim Brulte. CalWatchdog[4] has more.
