First, there is no man-made device that is superior to the innately marvelous but flawed human being. Man does not have the ability to make something that is superior to the combined powers of our intelligence apparatus and physical abilities of our species.
Second, a self-driving vehicle is no exception.
Third, the fact that the government had to come up with some kind of rules or laws to mitigate the undesirable side-effects of self-driving vehicles shows that ordinary people have more sense than the experts.
Fourth, while I can see some benefit for a self-driving vehicle for elderly or disabled people as long as they stay off the freeways, I do not see them being safe inside these vehicles. There are too many things that can go wrong, and will given enough time.
Fifth, the assumption by too many people that self-driving vehicles are inherently superior to human-operated vehicles is based on the false notion that science and technology are the salvation of mankind. In fact, most of the innovations of the past two hundred years have been disastrous to the well-being of every living thing and the terra firma upon which we live.
Sixth, I am not an advocate of Climate Change Policies because even if they were based on sound reasoning, they do not address actual problems that can be resolved by human beings. I am a Liberty-loving Conservation-minded American.
Seventh, the government should get out of the business of funding research and development of any technology, industry, and so forth. Let the market work out what works and what doesn't. Until that day comes, I'm not interested in being driven anywhere by an inanimate object.
