Calpers retirees are a subgroup of Americans, there is no reason why their mortality would be the same as other Americans. They are unlikely to be the ones overdosing on prescription drugs. Or leading unhealthy lifestyles. They also live in lovely California, near hospitals as opposed to rural Appalachia. So I see no evidence the CalPERS retiree subgroup’s life expectancy is declining.
