The NFL approved the Chargers move to LA -- but Spanos may have reasoned that the primary LA support will go to the Rams, leaving the Chargers without support from fans in LA OR San Diego. Moreover, he'd have to pay for a good portion of the Rams stadium -- he has NEGATIVE rent in San Diego.

As I understand it, the NFL has not given approval for the Chargers to move to Las Vegas, San Antonio, St. Louis, or other possible alternatives. Spanos will likely keep the team in San Diego. For now.

But I would expect him to continue to pursue those other options. No long term commitment to San Diego without a huge stadium subsidy. If I were the team owners, that would be my thinking at this time. Sooner or later, I expect that the team WILL leave San Diego for a bigger market.
