The upside is that in a Consumer Society like ours, consumers actually have the last word on what goes on in the marketplace.

I think there should be limits on how much and what kind of personal information companies may use without our consent. Credit card companies allow their customers to opt out.

I would prefer that the internet companies voluntarily chose to do the right thing, but I know there will always be at least one who won’t and they will have an unfair advantage over their competitors. So, I think a law is necessary.

Based on Greenhut’s evaluation, I am not sure this is the right proposal. But, I’m glad the matter is getting the attention of our representatives.
