Although the THC content in most CBD products is at a very low level, the fact is that if you do not want THC, you shouldn’t be getting it. There is another aspect of this, though, that I think is really important. We’ve talked about how there really is not a lot of THC in most CBD products, that this is basically a boogeyman created by the government as a part of the drug war propaganda. But if you don’t want THC, it shouldn’t be in the product. Secondly, if you do want THC, for example, if you want to use both THC and CBD, you can, in medical marijuana states, go to a dispensary, and buy CBD products that have varying amounts of THC. Sometimes 50, 50 or more.

Related: Looking for reliable products with lab-test backed results to compare? Click here.

What I recommend is that you buy your THC and your CBD separately. First off, it will cost you less. Medical marijuana dispensaries are subject to higher taxes and regulations, they have high overhead and so on. So the best place to buy CBD is from someone that sells CBD products directly and not a place that may pay a premium for a product that has both. If you want THC, buy it in whatever form you want it and use it in conjunction with the CBD products because you will pay less for it. You’ll have more control over the way you use it and how you dose it. This is, I think, a really important point. Obviously, I am strongly in favor of the legalization of CBD/THC combined products, but I would never recommend that under normal densities that you buy them as one product. It is really better to buy them as separate products.

CBDSeniors.com co-founder is long-time marijuana legalization advocate, Richard Cowan. Cowan’s December 1973 cover-article in the late William F. Buckley’s National Review magazine, calling for American Conservatives to support marijuana legalization drew international attention to the absurdity of marijuana prohibition and was described as opening a new front in the drug war.

In The December 6, 1986 issue of National Review, Cowan’s cover article, How the Narcs Created Crack, is credited with introducing “the Iron Law of Prohibition” and became the subject of a book on the economics of contraband, the stronger the drugs.

From August 1992 to August 1995 Cowan served as executive director of NORML. Cowan decided to help found CBDSeniors.com because the remnants of marijuana prohibition continue to block access to CBD in many areas, and prohibition makes standardized testing more difficult. He also wants to de-stigmatize the cannabis plant to senior citizens who were fed lies and misinformation throughout their entire life. Cowan now lives in Europe where he works with marijuana legalization activists.

Drug testing is a huge racket. Let’s be very clear about that. There is something that is not widely known, and that is that marijuana metabolized, not the actual active ingredients, stays in your system depending on how much you use for a week or two, or even a month if you’re a really heavy user. That is in contrast to cocaine, heroin, etc., that only stay in your system for about 24 hours. If you are subject to drug testing and you use marijuana on a Saturday night, Monday morning you will test positive for marijuana. If you use cocaine, heroin, LSD, all the other illicit drugs on Saturday night, come Monday morning, you will be drug free.

Are you a senior interested in the benefits of CBD? Click here for a comprehensive guide.

This is a perverse incentive. And this, of course, also has an effect. If somebody has flunked a drug test for marijuana, this can further damage their employment prospects. You get fired from your current job because you smoked marijuana two weeks ago. You get fired. The guy who used cocaine a day ago, escapes. This is how the system works.

Of course, once you flunk the test and you get in a downward spiral, hope also goes. And of course, who else gives these tests? Oh, the probation officers.

So you have situations in which people who are unemployed – and because of the drug war, are unemployable – have to go and pay to be drug tested, specifically for marijuana, or they go back to jail, but they can’t pay for the drug test. And so it goes. This, folks, is how the world works. Whether or not drug testing for anything is justifiable is one question. But the idea of using the same urine tests or hair tests for marijuana is so totally counterproductive with everything that they say they want to do. If this drug testing is used, they know this is having perverse effects. Let’s stop.

Related: Are you looking for high quality CBD products backed by lab-test results? Click here to learn more.

But no, they keep on doing the same thing. Now, as it happens, more and more companies are realizing that if they don’t hire people that use cannabis, they’re going to exclude a whole lot of highly qualified people. In a tight labor market, that may or may not involve unskilled workers.

Everybody focuses a lot on two things: coding and how to cheat on a drug test. That’s the key to your future kids; learn how to code and how to cheat on a drug test. This is how things work in the real world. If you can wave a magic wand and make marijuana go away, I would argue don’t do it. But until you can come up with that magic wand…

Let’s deal in the real world where you have millions of people using something that is less dangerous than almost any other mind altering substance out there. I don’t want to try to make these people unemployable.

The CBD oil market and the industry are steadily growing, with more and more companies offering new products and developments with their unique selling points each month.
The other day, there was a little bit of a rumble in the media about some of the Democratic candidates who were asked if they knew the name of the president of Mexico. A couple did. A couple didn’t.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was elected president, and had previously been very far to the left. He came in pledging to fight corruption and the dismissed are now weakened in every way.

All of the ways that the instruments by which the federal government might fight corruption are greatly weakened. Law enforcement in Mexico was already weak enough, and now the Mexican Supreme Court has basically ruled that marijuana prohibition in Mexico is unconstitutional. So it really seemed obvious that Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador might then necessarily move to legalize marijuana. But he has now announced that all he wants to do is medical and that the emphasis now has to be on fighting drugs and corruption. In other words, he’s going to keep the principal sources of income for organized crime.

I love Mexico. I’ve been there many times since I was small. It really is terrible for me to see the destruction of Mexico, and that the United States has been so much a party of because of our drug war subsidizing the so-called cartels and Mexican gangs. All this started with marijuana prohibition and this has been a major source of corruption and has done the same thing to undermine the rule of law in Mexico as it has in the United States. The difference is, no rule of law in Mexico is beyond fragile. It’s almost ephemeral.

Related: Looking to compare high quality CBD products, backed by third-party lab test results? Click here!

The idea that Lopez Obrador is going to fight corruption, fight drugs, and then limit marijuana to legal medical purposes in Mexico, is off because you can go into a pharmacy in Mexico and buy almost anything.

If the idea of the damage that is done by the drug war, it is an international ideology that turns the world upside down. That works as well in Iran as it does in Mexico or the United States or any other country. It is a subsidy to organized crime. It is a threat to public health. It is a threat to the public order.

But this great revolutionary of Lopez Obrador, for God’s sake, Jeff Sessions is now the president of Mexico. Well, they deserve one another.

Sponsored by Real Tested CBD. This article was originally published on Real Tested CBD. To view the original article, click here. Cannabidiol, or CBD, seems to be popping up everywhere.

Sponsored by Real Tested CBD.

This article was originally published on Real Tested CBD.
Cannabidiol, or CBD, seems to be popping up everywhere. Stores around the country are advertising that they sell it, and people you know may be using it for calming stress or reducing pain. But you might be confused about the product. Could it be a valuable addition to your health and wellness regimen? Is it legal? How will it make you feel?

CBD: The Basics

CBD is a non-psychoactive component of marijuana and hemp plants. It is one of many cannabinoids that are found in cannabis plants.

There are at least 85 cannabinoids in cannabis plants. Some say that there are hundreds.

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the most plentiful. That’s the compound that produces the high that people experience when they smoke marijuana.

Some of the other cannabinoids in marijuana and hemp plants include:

• THCA – A precursor to THC that’s found in raw cannabis and has anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, neuroprotective and antiemetic properties.

• CBG – A precursor to CBD that may help with relieving glaucoma, fighting bacteria, reducing anxiety and improving symptoms of gastrointestinal conditions.

• CBN – A cannabinoid that develops as THC ages and has many of the same health benefits.

• CBC – A cannabinoid with potential for fighting cancer, blocking pain, protecting brain cells, treating acne and reducing depression.

• THCV – A potentially psychoactive cannabinoid that suppresses the appetite and may help with diabetes, panic attacks and Alzheimer’s disease.

Most of the cannabinoids in cannabis are not intoxicating and have many health benefits. One of the reasons that researchers are paying attention to CBD more than the other cannabinoids is that it’s the second most plentiful cannabinoid in marijuana and hemp plants.

History of CBD

Although there has been a significant amount of media coverage about CBD in recent years, using cannabis for health benefits is not new. The plant has been used as a remedy for a variety of ailments since ancient times.

In 1839, W.B. O’Shaughnessy, a doctor and researcher, began to conduct experiments using cannabis. But he didn’t identify the different cannabinoids.

Advancements in technology allowed researchers to identify CBN in 1940. CBD was successfully isolated in 1942.

But scientists still weren’t sure how the cannabinoids exerted their effects on the human body. By the 1980s, researchers had concrete evidence that the body contains receptors that are influenced by cannabis. The endocannabinoid system was identified in the 1990s.

Understanding the endocannabinoid system has helped researchers learn how CBD and other cannabinoids exert their effects. The endocannabinoid system is a network of receptors that are located in the central nervous system.

They’re responsible for keeping the body in homeostasis. In other words, when you’re out of balance because of health problems, psychological issues, trauma or other conditions, addressing the endocannabinoid system can make you feel better.

Endocannabinoid receptors hang out on cell walls in the brain, organs, skin and other parts of the central nervous system. They’re activated when different cannabinoids bind to them. The body produces its own neurotransmitters that interact with these receptors. CBD and other cannabinoids interact with the receptors in the endocannabinoid system as well.

THCx stimulates CB1 receptors, which play a role in memory, motor function, mood and pain sensations. When THCx binds to CB1 receptors, you feel intoxicated or high. The other type of receptor in the endocannabinoid system is the CB2 receptor, which is responsible for immune function.

CBD doesn’t bind to CB1 or CB2 receptors. Instead, it changes the way that those receptors can bind to other cannabinoids. CBD plays an indirect role in optimizing the endocannabinoid system.

CBD and Epilepsy

An essential part of the CBD story involves its usefulness for treating epilepsy. You might be familiar with the story of Charlotte Figi. She had her first epileptic seizure when she was 3 months old. By the time that she was 6, she was having more than 300 major seizures a day.

Charlotte has Dravet Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy that doesn’t respond to most medication. While researching treatment options, Charlotte’s parents came across a story of a boy with a similar condition who was successfully treating his ailment with cannabis. They were intrigued.

The strain of cannabis that was proving to be effective was low in THCx and high in CBD. Therefore, it wouldn’t make children feel intoxicated. However, it did have the potential to stop the seizures.

Charlotte’s parents had to fight to try using CBD-rich cannabis for their daughter. Because of the legal issues that have been associated with marijuana, many doctors and authorities were hesitant to jump on board with the experimental treatment.

But Charlotte was experiencing brain damage from her seizures. Pharmaceuticals weren’t helping her. It seemed as though she had no other choice.

Charlotte’s parents found a high-CBD strain of marijuana and had it transformed into an oil concentrate that they administered to their daughter. Within hours, Charlotte stopped having seizures. Charlotte’s parents ended up working with the Stanley brothers, who grew medical marijuana in Colorado. They developed a strain with the qualities that would be ideal for treating rare forms of epilepsy.

Research continued, and in 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex, a CBD-based drug that’s used to treat two types of epilepsy in children over the age of 2.

The Science Behind CBD and Its Uses

Scientists are still working to fully understand the way the endocannabinoid system operates. However, many small studies have shown that CBD is promising for improving wellness in a variety of areas. Research shows that CBD may be useful for treating the following conditions:

Acne

ADHD

Addiction

Alzheimer’s disease

Anorexia

Anxiety and depression

Chronic pain

Cancer pain

Endocrine disorders

Fibromyalgia

Gastrointestinal disease

Migraine

Nausea

Nerve pain

Sleep disorders

Stress

Because the endocannabinoid system is responsible for so many functions within the body, it makes sense that a compound that interacts with it can have a wide variety of benefits.

One of the reasons why CBD can be so powerful for improving your health is that it has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation plays a role in a large number of health conditions. Being able to tackle inflammation at the source can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and chronic pain.

CBD isn’t just useful for physical ailments. It’s also relaxing and can improve your mood.

Several studies have found that CBD can help people manage anxiety. CBD may change the way that your blood flows to the areas of the brain that are linked to anxiety. Evidence shows that people with anxiety also tend to feel calmer after using CBD.

Many people who seek treatment for any of the ailments above end up taking pharmaceuticals that have significant side effects. CBD is a more natural option. It is generally regarded as safe and doesn’t produce major side effects. Plus, it doesn’t require a prescription and is legal in every state as long as it contains less than 0.3% THCx.

Compare that to the effects of drugs such as opioids, which are commonly prescribed to treat chronic pain. Opioids are highly addictive, have major side effects and lose effectiveness over time. Many other pharmaceuticals have similar problems.

CBD is not addictive and supports your health in a variety of ways. Many small studies support its effectiveness. Also, many people who have used it say that it does wonders for their pain, anxiety and general wellness.

I love it when I see somebody say CBD is not a cure-all. Having been at this awhile, I’ve heard “marijuana isn’t harmless.” “CBD isn’t cure-all.” OK. What do you want to talk about?

The idea is that the government continues to suppress research and the FDA has not done anything that they say they should do about CBD. But it is not a cure-all, which is an absolutely meaningless statement. And yet I’ll see this in the form of journalism. “CBD isn’t a cure-all… Marijuana is harmless…” Whatever. We’re really not looking at marijuana and CBD and understanding it. The reason that we’re beginning to learn how cannabis works on the human body is because we know that there is an endocannabinoid system, that is, cannabis being external to the body corresponds to something that is in fact inherent in our bodies; so that when we take in cannabinoids, they interact with the endocannabinoid system.

But we really do not know very much about that. We’ve found that there are receptors and that part of what we understand is the Debose molecules move into these receptors. But what is really going on behind that is something fundamental to the human body. In fact, because this isn’t just about “my headache is better” or something really serious is better. There is something going on in our bodies that we are now just beginning to understand. It hasn’t been that long. First off, since we didn’t know about THC, we didn’t know about the cannabinoid system until sometime in the 70s; it’s really a very recent thing.

Looking for reliable and lab-test backed CBD products to compare? Click here.

Two hundred years ago, the list of things we didn’t know about was just about complete – like everything. The idea that we found out that opiates have an effect in this sort of thing and we found different things have different effects? Well, in part (the good part) because of marijuana prohibition, we were very late in learning about how the cannabinoid system works. And again, this brings up the next subject that we’re all going to be talking about here for quite a long time. That is, the other cannabinoids. Because there are so many of them and we have absolutely no idea what they may or may not do or what is really intriguing is what they may or may not do in combination with other cannabinoids or with other things, the so-called entourage effect. So this is something where, first off, what we really need from the government in this regard is get the hell out of the way. Let free people discover what is so fundamental to ourselves, to our minds and our bodies and maybe our souls. But get the hell out of the way because this is what it means to be free.

Right now, we are in the middle of a presidential campaign that is raging. There is one topic that doesn’t usually make the agenda in presidential campaigns, and that is the drug war as well as medical marijuana. A number of the democratic candidates, most of them under political pressure, have come out in favor of some form of marijuana legalization. In the meantime, the Trump administration seems to have backpedaled. Donald Trump was always a social libertarian before he really got involved in politics. He was very critical of the drug war. Now, after he became president, for whatever reason, the Trump administration seems to be pulling back not only on recreational marijuana, but on medical marijuana.

If you’re looking for high-quality CBD for seniors, visit Blue Ribbon Hemp!

This, of course, is always a secondary issue even for the Democrats. We want Medicaid for all, we want lower drug prices. Everybody wants something. Have a little freedom. Fact of the matter is, whatever the government decides to do is going to be extremely difficult in terms of reforming an insanely expensive American medical system. Americans pay more (twice as much) per capita on health care as the second place country in the world. Our end outcomes are nowhere near the other countries. We’re paying a whole lot of money and we’re not getting our money’s worth. And hence we have all these debates.

At the same time, we are suppressing a natural medicine that could help millions of people. And we’re still arresting people for using a natural remedy that could help millions of people. This is something that goes to the very heart of everything that is being debated in the presidential campaigns, except that nobody is debating it or representing it directly. This is why we need to make this a really important topic, because it affects the health, the freedom, the whole functioning of law enforcement in the United States. I don’t know why Trump has reversed his position. But this is the issue that could cost Trump the election. And if anybody can get that point through to him, this could make a huge difference for everyone in America. One way or the other.

CBDSeniors.com co-founder Richard Cowan is a long-time marijuana legalization advocate.
