I was reminded of that when reading this report on how the median California community college student took 4.1 years to get through two years of college:

“We’re all talking about a college affordability crisis,” said Michele Siqueiros, executive director of the group that examined the graduation rates of the 2012-2013 graduates. “And time is part of that crisis.”

Of course, another part of that crisis is that a lot of those kids shouldn’t be in school at all. And a third part is that many classes are totally pointless. The fact is that, with free online services such as the Khan Academy, college now is worthless except as a place to have fun in the sun (at least in California) for four years or seven years, or maybe a dozen years if you throw in graduate and professional school.
