And Apple CEO Tim Cook tells “climate change”/global warming skeptics not to buy his company’s stock. Yet Apple puts its massive, heat-generating servers not in AB-32-slammed California, but in North Carolina.

All that’s happening even as these are today’s Drudge Report headlines:

global cooling = global warming

climate change = global warming

more hurricanes = global warming

fewer hurricanes = global warming

war = peace = global warming

freedom = slavery = global warming

ignorance = strength = global warming

Because you sure won’t suffer any meltdown there. According to Michigan Live:

“Lake Superior is almost frozen over as of yesterday February 5, 2014. Lake Superior is 92 percent covered with ice now. The ice has increased rapidly in the past week, from 76 percent ice cover on January 30, 2014. The high resolution satellite picture from February 3, 2014 shows all of the ice cover on Lake Superior. The current ice cover on Lake Superior is the highest amount ever for February 5. In 1994, Lake Superior was reportedly 91 percent covered in ice.”

I grew up in Michigan near Detroit and remember the frigid winters of the mid-1970s, where the temperatures dropped to -30 degrees Fahrenheit — before windchill. You just shuffled between your home, your car and your job or the store, trying to avoid frostbite. Now it’s even worse.

Meanwhile, back in California, AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, remains in effect, the state’s effort to make Lake Superior and the rest of the world even cooler. It’s forcing California industries to cut greenhouse gases by 25 percent by 2020.

According to the bill’s text, which was signed into law by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who must have thought it strange that winters were so much warmer in California than in the Austria he grew up in:

“National and international actions are necessary to fully address the issue of global warming. However, action taken by California to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases will have far-reaching effects by encouraging other states, the federal government, and other countries to act.”

Schwarzenegger, bill author Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, and the other legislators who voted for AB 32, along with big AB 32 supporter Gov. Jerry Brown, should move to the shore of Lake Superior and tell that passage to the Yoopers.

“But while the public’s attention has been on his diplomacy in the Middle East, behind the scenes at the State Department Mr. Kerry has initiated a systematic, top-down push to create an agencywide focus on global warming.

“His goal is to become the lead broker of a global climate treaty in 2015 that will commit the United States and other nations to historic reductions in fossil fuel pollution.”

Things must seem pretty warm in the countries he visited, mainly warm places like India and Vietnam. Except here’s a headline:

Even the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change now admits there has been a “hiatus” in global warming for 15 years. “Hiatus” is a euphemism for: global warming stopped.

It was part of the “global warming” hysteria of the day, including California’s passage of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, which has been shutting down our “dirty” industries.

“Climate change,” declares the home page for the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, “poses an immediate threat to California’s economy, environment, and to public health.”

The Brown administration is “taking action” to avert the worst global disaster since the meteorite (or meteorites, the science is unclear) that wiped out the dinosaurs, but it is being obstructed, the Brownies lament, by those who dare to question the prevailing wisdom on climate change; who “oppose the move to renewable energy and clean transportation.”

Well, the guv’s Office of Planning and Research — OPR, in bureaucrat speak — just isn’t going to stand for it anymore. So it has devoted its entire Website to taking on the evil climate change “deniers.”

“Just as we reached a point where we stopped debating whether cigarette smoke caused cancer,” the site declares, “we need to end the climate change debate and focus on how to solve the problem.”

And that begins by debunking claims of climate change “deniers,” who, as the Brown administration sees it, are on a moral par with devil-worshipping tobacco executives.

The deniers share certain traits, OPR states. “Many have little or no expertise in climate science.” Also, “Many receive funding for their efforts from industries with a financial interest in ignoring climate change.”

Of course, many if not most of those who subscribe to the climate change orthodoxy — that human activity accounts for much of the global warming trend observed in recent years — also have little or no expertise in climate science.

That includes Al Gore, for instance, whose 2006 climate change documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth,” won two Academy Awards (one of which was for Best Original Song), and propelled the former Veep into stardom. He also won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on “climate change.”

Your tax dollars

As to the insinuation that climate change “deniers” have been corrupted by funding from industries that couldn’t care less if Mother Earth is suffering hot flashes, that dirty industry money pales in comparison to the $2.6 billion the Obama administration proposed last year to fund research reinforcing climate change alarmism.

The reason the Brown administration has gone to such extraordinary lengths to discredit climate change “deniers” is because it blames them for polls indicating that “only about half of less than half of the American public is convinced that emissions from human activities bear responsibility.”

But it’s not because of climate change “deniers” that Americans are skeptical that global warming poses an “immediate threat” to life as they know it. It’s because they have heard similar warnings before of impending climate catastrophe that proved to be false alarms.

In 1975, Newsweek magazine published a scary jeremiad titled, “The cooling world.” It warned that “after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the Earth’s climate appears to be cooling down.” Time magazine ran cover stories such as, “The Cooling of America.”

Newsweek cited scientific studies, just as Gov. Brown’s OCR does on its website. And it warned of disastrous consequence if government did nothing, same as OCR.

The scientific community was dead wrong on global cooling four decades ago. All climate change skeptics — not “deniers” — are saying is that maybe, just maybe, the threat of global warming might be similarly overstated.

California’s wildly expensive AB 32, Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, is supposed to prevent man-made global warming. AB 32 took effect Jan. 1 — just in time for it to suffer another devastating scientific blow. Temperature data from 30,000 worldwide measuring stations analyzed by the United Kingdom‘s Meteorological Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit confirmd that the rising temperature trend in world temperatures ended in 1997 and the world may be facing a mini-ice-age.

The new research follows a commentary I published four months ago in the Big Government blog, “Nature Journal Discredits Global Warming.”  The article reported on the Nature Journal of Science, ranked as the world’s most cited scientific periodical, publishing of the “definitive study” by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, rebuking anthropogenic (man-made) Global Warming and attributing temperature variances to the effects of cosmic rays from the sun.

When my article appeared, conservatives gushed with praise.

But liberals, including the New York Times and Media Matters, threated to ruin me as a fraud for stating that one study could undermine the “proven science of man-made global warming.”  The controversy has continued to rage on the internet as a current search of Google generates 5,230,000 results and a search of Bing generates 12,600,000 results.  In spite of the powerful CERN study, on October 20, 2011, the California Air Resources Board voted to quickly implement the provisions of AB 32 as the first and only comprehensive limit on greenhouse gases in the United States.

Following release of the new Met and University of East Anglia data, leading climate scientists told The Daily Mail of London over the weekend that after emitting unusually high levels of energy throughout the 20th Century, the sun is now heading toward a “grand minimum” in its output, threatening cold summers, bitter winters and a shortening of the season available for growing food.

11-Year Cycles

The Mail quoted an analysis by experts at NASA and the University of Arizona derived from magnetic-field measurements 120,000 miles beneath the sun’s surface. The analysis suggested that solar output goes through 11-year cycles, with high numbers of sunspots seen at their peak.  These sunspots are generated from a massive circulating current of fire (hot plasma) within the Sun, referred to as the Great Conveyor Belt.  It has two branches, north and south, each taking about 40 years to perform one complete circuit.  Researchers believe the turning of the belt controls the sunspot cycle.  That is why a circulation slowdown impacts climate predictions.

Recent weather station measurements of cooler temperatures are consistent with the current peaking of “Solar Cycle 24,” which is running at less than half those seen during cycle peaks in the 20th Century.  Solar Cycle 25, whose peak is due in 2022, is predicted to be a great deal weaker still.

Dropping Temperatures

According to the Meteorological Office, there is a 92 per cent chance that Cycle 25 and those taking place in the following decades will be as weak as the ‘Dalton minimum’ of 1790 to 1830, when average temperatures in parts of Europe fell by 2 degrees Centigrade (-3 degrees Fahrenheit).

Professor Judith Curry of the Georgia Institute of Technology commented that water temperature cycles in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans “have insufficiently been appreciated in terms of global climate.”

When oceans cooled from 1940 to 1970, the climate cooled.  When the Pacific cycle warmed after 1970, the climate warmed.  But the ocean “flipped” back from warm to cold mode in 2008 and the Atlantic is also thought likely to flip in the next few years.  In 2011, world temperatures fell by more than half a degree, as the cold water “La Nina” effect re-emerged in the South Pacific.

The result was widespread outbreaks of bitter cold and frequent snow storms, both across the United States and Europe.  Said Benny Peiser, director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation, “We’re now well into the second decade of the pause.  If we don’t see convincing evidence of global warming by 2015, it will start to become clear whether the models are bunk.  And, if they are, the implications for some scientists could be very serious.”

As my article stated in September, “After 20 years of academic supremacy and hundreds of billions of dollars of costs, the Anthropogenic Global Warming theory seems headed for the dust bin of history.”  As the preponderance of science continues to turn against man-made global warning, it is now time for Californians to turn against AB 32.

In California, everything is upside down.

On Friday, the California Air Resources Board clicked its jackboots and ordered one in seven Calfornia cars to be “ultra clean” by 2025. That means “battery electric, hydrogen fuel cell and plug-in hybrid vehicles.”

It’s supposed to cut the greenhouse gases that supposedly cause global warming.

CARB Commissar Mary Nichols explained, “Today’s vote … represents a new chapter for clean cars in California and in the nation as a whole.” Of course, there was no vote by the people of California. They never would have done so. The vote was by the CARB Politburo.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, the real threat is global cooling, which has occurred every several hundred years in recent earth history. Reported the Daily Mail Sunday, “The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.

“The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.

“Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.”

Global “warming” is supposed to be caused by industrialization. Yet the past 15 years, 1997-2012, has been the most intense era of industrialization in history. China, India, Brazil and Russia have advanced by leaps and bounds as they put way behind them their socialist pasts. They want the good life capitalism brings through industrialization, and they don’t care about Mary Nichols, CARB, Gov. Moonbeam, Arnold Schwarzenegger, President Obama, Al Gore or any of the Western Luddites obsessed with global “warming” during a time of global cooling.

‘Cold Summers’

The Daily Mail continued: “Meanwhile, leading climate scientists yesterday told The Mail on Sunday that, after emitting unusually high levels of energy throughout the 20th Century, the sun is now heading towards a ‘grand minimum’ in its output, threatening cold summers, bitter winters and a shortening of the season available for growing food.

“Solar output goes through 11-year cycles, with high numbers of sunspots seen at their peak.

“We are now at what should be the peak of what scientists call ‘Cycle 24’ – which is why last week’s solar storm resulted in sightings of the aurora borealis further south than usual. But sunspot numbers are running at less than half those seen during cycle peaks in the 20th Century.

“Analysis by experts at NASA and the University of Arizona – derived from magnetic-field measurements 120,000 miles beneath the sun’s surface – suggest that Cycle 25, whose peak is due in 2022, will be a great deal weaker still.”

Here in Southern California, we’ve been enjoying balmy weather, with temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit in recent days. 

I’m enjoying it now. Because in  couple of years I’ll be wearing a parka in July. While Mary Nichols and Jerry Brown force me into a fire-hazard Government Motors Chevy Volt car I can’t afford — all to combat global “warming” that’s really cooling.
