Food costs will soar due to energy costs and practically a helpless dumbed down population incapable of personally adding value to basic food commodities……feed themselves.

A four dollar avocado is nothing……it will be unavailable….that’s worse. Who will invest in expensive distribution when no one can afford food products.

Brown is a human being, not a magician. He took a pragmatic approach that did a lot of good for the state and caused a lot of hurt for the cities and counties, when he abolished Redevelopment. We hadn’t had a real politician guiding CA since the days of the senior Brown. Like him or hate him–he is our leader. Why doesn’t some researcher do a Study about the exact liability amount that each CA citizen pays to fund pensions each year. If that were done, all the doomers could pay their, respective, two dollars and stop focusing on the multi-billion dollar debt that will be paid in minute amounts by all the citizens as they pass through this universe. There is no Utopia–we are either going to live, or we are going to die–thankfully we live in America. I would like to live a while longer, and I don’t want to do it watching others whine 24/7 about the cost of pensions. Focus on the cost of food–that is pretty catastrophic for people on a very limited income. (My son recently went into his WalMart in WA, hungry for an avocado–the cost was $4+–he didn’t get it. CA is not the only state where the cost of living is high.)

In reply to S Moderation Douglas. The problem is there is no "surplus", the pension costs are still not being funded, CURRENT COSTS, not even talking unfunded liability. It is a falsehood the budget is balanced.
