To go to Texas, where the temperature is regularly 101 F and the humidity is at 90%+?

Ulysses: My rent has gone sky-high and taxes are killing me. And today the temperature in Huntington Beach is 101 degrees F, with no air conditioning. For the first time in 27 years, I’m eager to leave.

Houston has a Lesbian mayor. The University of Houston is the second most diverse in the country with blacks and Latinos comprising 40% of the student body. And, its academics are surging.

California and Texas are headed in different directions while people are voting with their trailers.

Conservative economics succeeds.

Sorry my little parrot, but the “Doomers” worshio Al Gore and the weather!! The water is rising, the deserts are dry, it’s hot in summer and cold in winter, ice everywhere, heat everywhere, bee’s dropping like flies, radioactive fish, and MGO foods, we’re doomed!! LOL!! 🙂

Nobody claims all is well with California education, but DeVore admittedly cherry picked the data in the report to ignore such things as ACT/SAT score differentials between the states. He also seems to have missed the data showing that Texas has shown many areas of decline in its education system for the past two decades, and has a long history of under reporting its dropout rate.

All of that is in the report if you read past the Executive Summary, but even that contains this little gem:

“In conclusion, while Texas typically performs in the middle between New
York and California on the K-12 and higher education measures,the state is seeing more trends of decline and stasis than growth between 2000 and 2010 relative to all states in the nation.”

That report says Texas may trail New York among big states but that Texas does better than California.

“In terms of higher education outcomes, Texas, in comparison to its peer states, finds itself generally surpassing California, but trails New York in virtually all outcomes.”

Victory is mine! Maybe not a rout, but victory nonetheless.

Funny, Chris, but the University of Texas did an extensive report that doesn’t seem to support the pie-in-the-sky claims made by you and Chuck DeVore. You folks claim to be operating a “journalistic venture,” so why would you ignore more recent facts that don’t appear to support your claims?
