You remind me of the ultimate optimist on the Titanic who tried to reassure the other passengers that it was only a small leak and that that the maintenance crew would have it fixed in no time. The Titanic was sink proof! lol. Then when the ship tilted at a 45 degree angle you ran to find a lifeboat, only to learn there were none left. lol. The rest is history. lol.

Fast forward 100 years. The California welfare state is sustainable! Everything is ok. Don't panic. Especially with illegals pouring over the border by the millions to get their free medical care, education and CA driver's licenses!!! LOL!!!!

I'm finished with you!!!! LOL!

Between 14 year old teenage moms, " $500 or more for a lousy rolling stop", and " all the HIDDEN regressive taxes and so-called fees", your existence must be a living hell.

I'm sorry to add to your burden the disappointing news that your taxes are not actually high enough to qualify as a true martyr. Fortunately for you, there are still numerous other opportunities in California for tilting at windmills.

Good old first world problems like "OMG!!!! I have to press "one" for English!!!"

For the rest of us, the glass is at least half full.

As usual, you are right on target, donk.

The teacher's union promotes the importation of poverty from other nations - and illegal immigration. Even though they KNOW it contributes heavily to the deterioration of our public school system and causes great harm to the students who are motivated to learn. It disrupts the learning process and it forces the schools to redirect taxpayer monies from the motivated students to the ones who can't even speak the english language. No other civilized nation on earth allows this. Mexico certainly doesn't. Try to find a "spanish second language" curriculum in a public school in Mexico. lol. Yet the Mexican government encourages the poorest of their poor to trek north across the US border and let the stupid Americans take care of them. We are witnessing the destruction of a once great nation. But the teachers don't care. As long as it adds more students to the classroom and they get more money from the State for their fat salaries and pensions - it's all good. The teachers are complicit in destroying the country. Very sad.

And, yes, the prison system is just as pathetic. We (America) have 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prisoners. Yet they continue to call us the "land of freedom". lol. We are BY FAR the nation with the largest prison population per capita. Yes, far more than Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Russia, Syria, China, Pakistan, etc.....

I've seen America at it's best. And now I see it at it's worst. I feel very sorry for the younger generations. And as an old fart, I always apologize to them whenever the opportunity arises.

I have already shown through independent sources that California is ranked #3 in the nation with welfare spending per capita (Source: UT San Diego). I have already shown that California is home for 33% (33%=1/3) of all welfare recipients in the United States and that $1 of every $5 dollars spent on welfare is spent by the State of California (1/5=20%)(Source: usgovernmentspending.com) All data was collected from government sources.

You originally stated that Ca is accountable for only 13% of welfare spending. A wild inaccuracy. And you have failed to acknowledge that the State of California has ignored the 'welfare to work' federal requirements that limit the amount of time a recipient can remain on welfare without completing training or seeking employment. That is the huge carrot that draws so many welfare recipients to California. The failure of the State to enforce the 'welfare to work' laws and to allow people to subsist off the generous welfare programs. Career welfarists - and it is perpetrated through the family generations. Teenage girls drop their first offspring at the age of 14 or 15 and mimic mom. And the State of California encourages this behavior and vicious cycle by virtue of the generous welfare benefits it awards to the most unproductive people in our society.

I know you won't agree with the facts here. I am writing to educate others and to point out your misinformations.

Seriously

There are two major institutions compiling tax data in the US. TaxFoundation, generally considered a conservative think tank compiling tax data since the forties. And ITEP, generally considered liberal, has been doing it since the eighties. They both use computer models based on hundreds of thousands of data points.

Taxfoundations California page says sales tax is 7.5%. ITEP says the average combined state& local tax is 8.2%.

Whose information is "trustworthy"? To arrive at the effective tax burden, each has to first estimate what portion of income each group spends on taxable goods. The margin of error there makes .25% look like a drop in the barrel.

I used ITEP because they are the ONLY institution that breaks down tax burdens by income group. Their overall state data is very similar to Taxfoundation.

I also cited one other study which compares computed tax burdens in major cities in each state. Though not as dramatic as ITEP, it shows middle to lower income Californians tax burdens in L.A. rank between 12th and 18th nationwide. Not the "highest taxes" in the nation. Not even in the top twenty percent. http://cfo.dc.gov/node/768732
.................................
This discussion started with "Colliefornia has the highest taxes in the country". Clearly shown to be incorrect even by your "proof sources".

"California is the nation’s welfare capital": incorrect, according to your "proof sources". Even MORE incorrect when considering the TOTAL welfare expenditures.

Don't shoot the messenger. When you shout Fox news misleading headlines, I will quietly point out your error.

A .25% difference in sales tax is less than $8 a month for the average Californian. About $2 a month for the poorest. I will GIVE you $2 if you should ever become mature enough to be trusted with money.

Oh, and SMD. You never responded to Bob's comment about the inaccuracy of the state's sales tax rate at the link you provided. 6.25%? What century are they referring to? lol.

When you link a source make sure its information is trustworthy, SMD. Otherwise it destroys your argument.

SMD, I have provided 3 or 4 proof sources that completely refute your claims. It's quite obvious to me now that you are willfully oblivious to the truth and to the facts. Everyone and his brother knows that California is the nation's welfare capital. And everyone knows that the illegals and anchor babies in our public schools have caused a sharp deterioration in our education system. First they blamed low test scores and failing grades on hungry students. So we gave them free food and cafeterias is practically every school. Grades and test scores continued to plummet. Then they said the reason was due to a lack of funding to the public schools. So we passed a multitude of school bonds and give nearly half of our state budget to K-12. Test scores and grades continued to tank. And now we are #46 out of 50 in school rankings nationally. lol. No one wants to accept the truth. You see, the massive importation of indigents and poverty from 3rd world crapholes is highly destructive to a society. That is the reason no other civilized nation does it. We are being led by the insane who have the willful intention to destroy California and our once prosperous way of life. And those like you are bending over and kissing their boots.
