Real Estate prices rise due to anticipation. Good real estate generally returns 5% in annual yield. Calif. residential real estate has gone about 7% over the long haul. Buy and hold, step up in basis on death with resulting minimal capital gains taxes on sale…..powerful generational returns!

Chris, while your point is partly true, California’s problem is more complex than your post. The fact that the state has made California a sanctuary stop for illegals is a large factor as to why housing is so expensive. 🙂

There are many factors driving the cost of housing in this commie state, one is illegal immigration, the other happens to be the RAGWUS, which has a vested interest in keeping property prices as high as possible. Follow the money folks, in the end the RAGWUS feeders end up with most of the cash.

The more privately built housing, the less housing will cost, the more poverty will go down. All housing is not government Section 8 housing. The states with looser rules on construction — Texas, Florida, etc. — have lower poverty than states like California because the poor and middle class don’t have to spend half their income on shelter.

And their answer is to ruin expensive neighborhoods with low-income housing (read crime ridden)??? Did this suggestion come from Al Sharpton? People spend a lot of time working their tails off to get out of lowcost housing. And for all their effort you’re going to bring the ghetto back into their neighborhood? Idiotic.

What an idiotic position. The answer to low-cost housing is to insert poverty into expensive neighborhoods? You might as well call this the “Share the crime program”, or the “How to wipeout 80% of home equity plan”. People work hard to get out of crime-ridden, low-income areas. How absurd.
