40,697 new commandments

H.L. Mencken once quipped, “Say what you will about the Ten Commandments, at least there are only ten of them.”

Politicans, considering themselves gods, naturally seek to improve upon the Almighty’s work. Last year alone, state governments imposed 40,697 new laws — commandments — upon their helpless constituents/peons. Most of them go into effect this year, 2010.

A few new laws actually are good, such as the occasional tax cut or reduction in regulations. But almost all the new laws are nuisances that control our lives and reduce our liberties.
