Can Big Sis be stopped?

It is absurd that Janet Napolitano could become the head of the University of California. Other than being a student, Big Sis has no academic experience. She has produced no original research. She has not headed an academic apartment. She has no idea what it’s like to thrive in a free academic environment.

Her whole life, as head of the unconstitutional and German-sounding Department of Homeland Security, has been to harass and repress.

When I matriculated to the University of Michigan 40 years ago, we were a little envious that ours was the second most prestigious public university in America, after UC. Since then, both have gone down in prestige, although UC probably remains the the best public university in America, just barely. Since 1973, other states have boosted their own universities, especially the University of Texas and the University of Virginia.

Another problem she never would deal with is that, although American universities’ technical departments remain the greatest in the world, most humanities departments have become cesspools of Stalinist political correctness. It’s as if the Berlin Wall never fell and the Soviet Communist Party never was dissolved and abolished in 1991.

Most university humanities departments assume it’s Moscow 1937, with everyone who shows a smidgen of un-P.C. thought subjected to a Vyshinskyite repression.

Fortunately, some stirrings against Napolitano’s appointment are rising. The Bee reported:

“Objection is mounting to the nomination ofJanet Napolitano as the next University of California president, with students and immigration activists planning to protest against her at Thursday’s meeting of the governing Board of Regents in San Francisco.

“Napolitano, a former governor and attorney general of Arizona, announced Friday she would step down as President Barack Obama’s U.S.Homeland Security secretary after her nomination to UC is confirmed. She is expected to attend the meeting, where regents are scheduled to vote on her nomination.”

Actually, despite some deportations, she pretty much has imposed President Obama’s Open Borders policy, in defiance of the law. But you can’t expect todays’ P.C. students to know what’s going on.
