Legislature on track to unveil new sexual harassment rules in June

The California Legislature’s Joint Committee on Rules’ Subcommittee on Sexual Harassment Prevention and Response is on track to keep its earlier promise to unveil new sexual harassment guidelines for both chambers by the end of June, according to an update letter issued this week.

“We recognize that accomplishing these objectives will take time, but we must start now,” said Assemblymember Laura Friedman, D-Glendale, and Senator Holly Mitchell ,D-Los Angeles, the chair and vice chair of the committee, in a statement.

While the exact guidelines are still a work in progress, the pair announced three guiding principles: “Significant cultural change to create a workplace of respect, civility and diversity”; “comprehensive redesign of policy, procedures and training”; and “independent investigation and determinations of sexual harassment allegations to ensure equitable and accountable outcomes.”

The push to change the rules follows several months of revelations surrounding sexual harassment and a toxic culture for employees in the capitol. After Sen. Tony Mendoza’s resignation stemming from allegations of sexual harassment, the Senate announced new guidelines that require outside investigators in such cases. The Assembly, however, did not adopt similar reforms. The subcommittee hopes to streamline these disparities.

The Joint Committee’s next hearing will be on June 18.

I want to say how much I admire K.Hughes for this painstaking and analytical article and her sense of justice. Sadly, I am pessimistic about fairness and justice in USA.No, it is not fair or just. This is an excellent article that gives a really good run-down of this case and trial. It appears the US government is determined to find Dr.Dhafir guilty, and it does not matter that he is innocent. It seem that they just want to prove that their “war on terror” is working, and are determined to keep him in jail. Why? Is to justify the money spent on this so called “war on terror”, and/or save their political careers? Or what? Also, is it fair that Dr. Dhafir has had to with each appeal go back to the very same judge who sentence him in the first place? No this is not justice!HiI am very pleased to read your article. Your blog / article is good and very informative. Your tips helps me a to improve my sexual life. I am enjoying my sexual life a lot. My Sex drive is now longer. I got a lot of solutions of my sexual health disorders. Great and amazing knowledge.Dr. Gilmore is my long time friend, NCCU classmate and fellow track team member. I have copies of all of his books and many of his articles. His writings always reveal historical facts and caveats of stories or events which I thought I was very knowledgeable about, that is, until I learn something new from his outstanding, exciting, engaging and spellbinding stories brought to life by his historical scholarship!!Tony’s article is a winner just like just like he was when he ran for the NCCU Track Team!!
