Unions buy Republicans … literally

Three unions were contributing sponsors of the California Republican Party convention in Santa Clara over the weekend. The sponsors are: The Los Angeles Police Protective League, the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association and the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs. As one reader noted, “No wonder we don’t get pension reform.” No wonder, also, that leading GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman reportedly torpedoed a pension-reform initiative and exempts public safety unions from her pension reform ideas and no wonder that Republicans such as Assemblyman Curt Hagman are busy expanding disability benefits for government retirees.
