Scam to help Filner avoid/delay recall?

bob_filner_apology_1373581905079_444830_ver1.0_320_240What was this past week’s biggest development on the Bob Filner front? What single event happened that will have the most long-term consequences in the hilarious/sad scandal of the San Diego mayor whose name will now forever be a synonym for grabby/creeply/clueless workplace sexual harasser?

The conventional wisdom is that the big event was Filner becoming toast because of the public emergence of seven accusers, many prominent — and the absurd twist that one of Filner’s past victims appears to be the new superintendent of the city’s vast school system.

But maybe it’s the brazen attempt of a supporter of the twisted mayor to monkey-wrench the recall process. This is from the Voice of San Diego:

Triggering deadline for signature-gathering

“One of San Diego Mayor Bob Filner’s most ardent supporters has taken the first steps to recall him, possibly foreclosing other efforts to kick out the embattled mayor.

“Local LGBT activist Stampp Corbin has taken initial steps to start circulating petitions to recall the mayor, citing the sexual harassment accusations leveled against Filner in recent weeks. …

“But by starting a recall process, Corbin might be making a strategic move to prevent other groups from doing the same.

“City recall rules don’t clarify whether more than one recall campaign can run concurrently once another process has started. And if a recall process fails, opponents would have to wait another six months before trying again, according to city rules. …

“Getting a recall on the ballot is a significantly difficult task even for someone highly motivated. To get a recall on the ballot, Corbin would need to collect at least 101,596 valid signatures in 39 days. …

“Corbin’s publication was one of the most faithful backers of Filner’s mayoral bid, specifically in its reporting on Filner’s opponent Carl DeMaio, who is openly gay. LGBT Weekly purported to reveal private details of DeMaio’s relationship with rival gay media publisher Johnathan Hale and pushed a theory that Hale was involved in the Balboa Park lily pond vandalism despite there being no evidence.”

Gay-baiting gay activist has new role: scam artist

So are you following here? The gay-baiting gay activist who has no issues with heterosexual women being harassed is trying to raise practical and legal obstacles to a recall, possibly triggering signature-gathering deadlines and almost certainly ensuring a time-consuming turf war between rival recall groups — one actually trying to thwart a recall, one serious about the effort.

This is going to be entertaining.

Oh, wait. I live in San Diego.

This is going to be a tiresome ordeal.

I personally heard Mr Corbin say what he was going to do. Mr Corbin goes everyday 24/7 to the SRO Lounge and boasted of his intentions.

There is little doubt in my mind that Filner is an old lecher. In fact, didn’t he just admit to being “disrespectful” to women and that he would seek professional help for it? Does anyone really believe that counseling is going to change the spots on a leopard?

But why did all these women wait so long to report him? This is 2013, not 1932. If somebody grabbed my package in the workplace I’d be the first one to report and document it. I’d let lots of other stuff slide under the radar with my fellow workers, but taking personal indecent liberties with other workers while on the clock is not one of them. Somewhere the line in the sand has to get drawn.

Are some of these women out for easy bucks? Is that it? What finally woke them up? Or has this turned into a political lynching?

I think Filner should resign his office, if the allegations are true. Why get dragged through the mud at 70 years of age?

If I’m missing something here, please clue me in.

There you go again, Chris. A former supporter of Mayor Filner’s wants to start a move to recall him. But rather than praising him, you smear him for it.

So if he says nothing, he’s an apologist for the mayor? And if he moves to recall him, he’s doing it to support the mayor? How ludicrous. No chance he could be truly disgusted with the situation.

No, the only truly righteous people are the right-wing jackals and their UT cheerleaders who have been attacking the Mayor since he won the election.

Why not just gather signatures on Corbin’s petition and avoid the whole dueling petition issue altogether?

This ongoing drama is disturbing on so many levels…perhaps the worst is Filner’s blindness to the desires of everyone around him–or 75% anyway if you believe the polls. What mentally normal person would be able to stand in the glare of this kind of national disgrace and attendant publicity? It defies logic and any sense of decency that he would want to stay on in the job–I can only think mental impairment.

I also wonder if any of the women who claim he molested them were Republicans? Democrat women waved the flag in the fight for equality–why would they have been so silent for decades about his behaviour? Does their “War on Women” battlecry only apply to what the GOP does?

So while Corbin plays his silly little game, the pervert Mayor gets to stay in office and spend even more their money partially on his defense.

The Democrats war on women continues. Between Filner and the Occupy movement, we are talking about dozens of rapes, sexual assaults, sexual harassment, groping, ect. Lets not forget the public defecation, defecation on police cars and public masturbation by the Occupy movement.
It appears that the Demoncrats are a pack of sexual predators.

Gee. John, does that mean that the Republicans who have been calling for a recall since the day Filner took office are also “fishy”?

So in other words, Democrat women are willing — even eager — to abet the bad behavior of men as long as those men support the Democrats’ theoretically pro-woman agenda of legal abortions and taxpayer-funded health care.

But isn’t it possible that the agenda and the behavior are connected? That is, ladies, maybe it’s not a coincidence that the same men who want to ensure your unborn child can be turned into medical waste — or who feel your vote (not to mention your sexual favors) can be bought in exchange for “free” birth control — are the very men who treat you like a collection of damp holes into which they can stick themselves without regard for your feelings, their principles, or basic human decency. The Kennedys, the Clintons, the Weiners, the Spitzers — maybe they have a natural home in a party that is always thinking of ways to transform female sexuality into a meaningless mechanism, and devising ways to fund that transformation with other people’s money.

It’s too bad really. I’m sort of fond of women, speaking generally. I know some guys have a problem with them, but taken as a sex, they’ve been really nice to me, all things considered. Sad to see them fall under the sway of a party that, both personally and politically, treats them like so many pieces of meat.

All Filner has to do is last a year and then he qualifies for a sweet pension on top of his already sweet govt pension. He’s just hanging on killin time.
