O.C. Sheriff Hutchens allows more conceal-carry permits

Hutchens CoverOrange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens commendably is expanding the ranks of those able to get conceal-carry permits. This follows a ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that the Second Amendment right to “keep and bear arms” includes the word bear.

When Hutchens was appointed sheriff in 2008, she succeeded Mike “America’s Sheriff” Carona, who had been convicted in federal court on corruption charges.

Hutchens unfortunately tightened the county’s conceal-carry policy, which Carona had loosened, in part to give permits to his cronies.

Hutchens tightened the policy even though a) Orange County is a conservative county whose populace favors gun rights. And b) the evidence now is overwhelming that allowing conceal-carry by honest citizens actually cuts crime. The reason is that criminals don’t care about such laws, so the laws only are followed by law-abiding citizens. That leaves citizens unarmed when under assault by armed thugs.

The 9th Circuit’s panel’s decision is under appeal. But even if the decision is overturned, Hutchens could continue her policy. That’s because, under California law, it is county sheriffs who hand out conceal-carry permits at their own discretion.

Why do you keep using Lott as a source of authority when his thesis has repeatedly been disproven, John?

Oh, and here’s what the American Society of Criminology had to say about Lott’s theory. Note particularly the discussion of his methodology at the end of page 5 continuing to page 6 of the article.

The Constitution is clear, citizens have a right to “keep and bear arms,” not just guns, “arms.”

What kind of arms are you jonesing for now, Donk? Are you one of those wingnuts who wants their own minigun or M79 for protection from the brown hoards you fear?

What is that about “brown hoards” Skdog dog? More of your race baiting commie BS!! Being half Cherokee I have been in many situations where I had to put up with bigots with your mindset, and all were as brown as I.

I have nothing to fear from people of any race, but it does seem that White Americans frighten you my little misogynist coward. 🙂

Only the bigoted and goofy teabilly ‘Muricans who’ve decided they’re going to arm themselves to fight the government, create vigilante groups to “protect the border,” and style themselves as some kind of tinfoil tricorne patriots who don’t really understand the first thing about the system of ordered liberty our Founders created.

Claiming you are half Cherokee is like claiming you’re Irish today. A convenient if fictitious way to avoid admitting who and what you really are.

Skdog your fear of tea party members is irrational, they are only voicing their opinion. It is far more likely that you fear their belief that the Constitution is not being followed more than anything else.

It just so happens I am half Cherokee and many different European mixes.
What I am is American, I don’t need a hyphen to feel good about myself like a race baiter does. I don’t need a mythical land or a ship in space to look forward to or dream of like most haters in your world Skdog.

Like most in LE you have an anger towards people that seek freedom for themselves, but based mostly on greed for sure, with the current systems ability to steal from the private sector. Younger people will fix this cabal of crooks scam. 🙂

Every time you or a Teabilly speaks or writes a comment, it merely reinforces Winston Churchill’s observation that the best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.

Well, I see a few people here can’t play nice. The fact that our county has unanimously granted our Sheriff 1.5 million and 15 staffers to push the applications through and the fact that Hutchens changed her policy on CCWs is a clear indication that our county doesn’t have issues with CCW permit holders.

Zombies, world invasion or mass shooters. What ever your mind is on for wanting to CC is all on you.

How often does anyone say to themselves they will never get into a car accident?
They will never be robbed, raped, assaulted or financially scammed? Well, I bet the folks in Colorado thought Batman was going to be a great movie that night too.

So before anyone calls anyone crazy. Remember you could be next and you may not be able to stop it if you are not prepared.
