Fort Ross Still In Bad Shape

Anthony Pignataro:

Back in June Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a deal with the mysterious Russian Renova Group of Companies to take over control — and provide financing — for Fort Ross State Park. Because “Operating hours have been reduced at the partk as a result of the state’s fiscal crisis,” the deal was, as Arnold put it, “to increase the services at Fort Ross at no cost to taxpayers.”

Well, guess what: according to this new public notice, the state’s continuing, ongoing budget crisis means operating hours at Fort Ross have, once again, been slashed to virtually nothing. Starting Dec. 1 and going through June 30, 2011, the park will only be open on weekends.

No wonder no one at the Parks Department would ever tell me who first came up with the Renova deal…
